A Study of Peer Relationship Experiences of Immigrant Children
Kim Hyun-Joo

Abstract
The purpose of this study is to explore support systems that help children adjust to their home country when they come back after living in foreign countries for years. The study reviews the previous research on peer relationship experience of immigrant children and important factors that affect such experience. The study also examines the differences and similarities in the adjustment process between children who come back to Korea after living in foreign countries for some time and children who go to foreign countries in terms of peer relationship from the standpoint of cultural adjustment. Findings of this study show the importance of support systems for immigrant children such as professional multi-cultural counseling services, educational systems, and legal support services. The study not only provides a preliminary theoretical review for a follow-up study on peer relationship of immigrant children but also discusses urgent issues in supporting them who need help in the process of adjustment to the Korean culture.
